The commissioner has placed the orders for the championship mini-helmet and championship jerseys. Because the 'Mericans already have a helmet, their manager gave the prize to the Liberty Bowl runner-up Boomtown Brawlers. The Redlegs finished third in the Liberty Bowl. Below are the mockups for the helmet and the three conference champions' jerseys. View previous years' helmets and jerseys here. The helmets are made by HelmetNation.com and the jerseys by HopcoSports.com.
OIL manager Zachary Jessen purchased a throwback helmet harkening back to the first iteration of his franchise, DominationStation (before we realized his logo was plagiarized). Meanwhile, Arrogant Americans manager ordered a helmet commemorating his 2012 championship. Both helmets have arrived and look fantastic. As always, HelmetNation, LLC. produced the unique memorabilia. No OIL funds were expended for these items.
By OIL Commissioner Justin C. Cliburn Congratulations to Christopher Trovillo, whose Dirty Hippies won the 2016 Liberty Bowl. He will hold the Tenequer Memorial Trophy in trust until a new champion is crowned. He also earned a custom mini-helmet with the win, and the Commissioner awaits his instructions regarding said helmet. As far as Lance Zerger goes, his Redlegs fell short in their quest to win their first week 17 championship. But the season was a monstrous success regardless. The Redlegs set a record for most points in single season, won 12 games, and won the AFC's Thunder Bowl. He will have his name engraved on the Killman Memorial Trophy and his custom jersey has been ordered. Well, that's it for the 2016 OIL season. Congratulations to the three conference champions: Buehre, Trovillo, and Zerger. The 2017 draft order will be posted soon, and I'll get started on the 2016 edition of the Book of OIL. Be prepared for lots of emails soliciting your feedback on the 2016 draft party, trades, rivalry week, season, and playoffs.
Zerger has plans to coordinate an OIL March Madness pool, and we'll be finding ways to raise money for the 2017 draft weekend, which will again occur at the Roberts Retreat Lodge north of Ada. Our deposit has been paid, and we need to pay $3,100 by August to keep the rental (and not lose the $780 deposit). Anyone who was at the 2016 draft can vouch for how amazing the venue is: 5,000 square-foot cabin; private lake; ATV trails; shooting range; ping pong table; big screen TVs; huge wrap-around porch; and the company of your SECFOR brothers. If you'd like to make your donation now, the link is here. You can view photos, videos, and audio clips of the 2016 draft weekend here. If you encounter a password prompt, the password is oklahoma*** with the *** being the number of our military unit. Happy New Year, brothers. Something tells me we'll keep in touch all offseason using the GroupMe chat (thanks to Zerger for suggesting that). For all of those who didn't win a championship in 2016 (including me), the new year provides new hope. In the meantime, check out the championship banners hung at the top of each champion's manager page: 2015 AFC and overall OIL champion War Pony now has a custom mini-helmet to add to his two championship jerseys. As always, this fantastic helmet was manufactured by HelmetNation, LLC. And, while we're showing off new helmets, proper custom helmets for Lucky Enuf and SoonerJack arrived today as well. Check them out on their team pages. And you can view all the previous championship jerseys and helmets here.
The managers for the 2008 and 2011 champion SoonerJack and 2013 champion Dogs of War will soon receive their championship mini-helmets. The final piece to the helmet puzzle is the 2009 champion ThroatPunchers, who finished in second place the following season before leaving the league to commish the MGL full-time (opening up a spot for Yancy Baldwin).
2014 NFC and overall OIL champion Christopher Trovillo received his championship jersey this week. Here he is showing off the Harrington Trophy, the Tenequer Memorial Trophy, his Dirty Hippies jersey, his Dirty Hippies mini-helmet, and his son.
2007 champion Lyndal Morgan received a custom mini-helmet to commemorate his 2007 OIL Bowl championship. His Whackers beat his arch-rival (Leal's Norman Nobodies) to conclude the second season of the OIL. The 2014 champion Dirty Hippies helmet is still a work-in-progress because it is more complicated. We're starting with the 2014 champion and then going back to the beginning of the OIL to work our way back to 2013.
2006 champion Kevin Pyle now has a custom Lucky Enuf mini-helmet to go along with his custom championship jersey. The league is working on getting 2007 champion Lyndal Morgan a Whackers mini-helmet next.
Two-time OIL champion Jack Bruesch's SoonerJack was given a makeover by a designer at Fiverr. The new uniform is represented below on Drew Brees: Bruesch's QB on the 2011 OIL Bowl champion squad.
The uniform is based on Bruesch's beloved Oklahoma Sooners. The helmet logo is based on his love of poker. Clean. Simple. Overall, a good luck for the two-time champs. The designer did a great job turning the New Orleans Saints uniform into the perfect uniform for SoonerJack. |
