The inaugural class of the OIL of Fame was inducted in 2016. For its first class, the Hall of Fame allowed each voting member to place votes in every positional category. Going forward, each voting member has a finite number of votes to use on players regardless of position. After months of waiting for the votes to come in, the Class of 2017 is complete.
RB Steven Jackson (2006-2014)
In nine OIL seasons, Steven Jackson scored an average of 225.37 fantasy points en route to a total of 2,028.3 fantasy points. He contributed to a record four OIL championships . . . all within a five-season period.
WR Calvin Johnson (2007-2015)
Nine seasons. Two championships. The highest-scoring WR in OIL history with 2,393.60 fantasy points (265.96 per season). It was never a question of if Megatron made the Hall of Fame, but when.
Every top-tier sports league has a hall of fame, and the OIL is a top-tier fantasy football league. So why should it be any different? It's time to induct the first class into the OIL Hall of Fame. But, first, let's discuss logistics.
Where is it?
Our Hall of Fame is located at Camp Gruber, Oklahoma. Why Camp Gruber? Well, that's where the SECFOR mission began. Every member of the 158 (and every member of the SECFOR mission that gave rise to the OIL) has spent time at Camp Gruber. The Pro Football Hall of Fame is located in Canton, Ohio, even though no professional football teams are based there anymore. The same is true for Camp Gruber: no one lives there now, but it's the birthplace of the OIL and a place to where many of our members still make an annual pilgrimage.
What is the criteria for the OIL Hall of Fame?
Who selects the OIL Hall of Fame inductees?
The Hall of Fame committee, which consists of the overall OIL Commissioner, each Assistant Commissioner that has been in the OIL for three seasons, and each OIL champion who has been in the OIL for at least three seasons.
The commissioner and assistant commissioner positions get one vote automatically. Each championship is equal to one vote as well. So, here are the votes:
So, without further adieu, here is the inaugural class inducted into the OIL Hall of Fame.
