The NFC voted Monday to rename the Harrington Trophy in memory of SFC Isaac S. Lawson, who was killed in action during a convoy with the 158 on June 5, 2006. The new home of the Lawson Memorial Trophy is here. The legend of Nathan Harrington will live on at the previous webpage for the trophy.

Recent addition Kevin Hodge unveiled his Red Ball Express today. The name is based off the famed Army unit that supplied the Allies during WWII. Hodge will compete in the PFC in 2016 and his team's branding complete's the newest conference's branding efforts.
On Sunday afternoon, I put the word out that the PFC trophy was in need of a name. And by evening more than one manager suggested we name it after Brandon Landrum. SPC Landrum was a medic during the 158's 2008-2009 mission in Iraq. Later, he got a commission and went active-duty as an infantry officer. He was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2013. We'll never be able to bring him back or bring comfort to his family, but we can remember him by putting his name on the PFC trophy.
The OIL has been competing for over 10 years, and we take pride in what our league has become. Commissioners often ask us for advice, and we're glad to share. So here is a quick tutorial to help commissioners take their fantasy football league to the next level. You'll notice we don't cover league settings such as roster positions and scoring categories. Whatever works for your league is what you should use. But a great scoring system doesn't make a league great. Instead, it's the community you build that makes your league something to be proud of. So here we go: Traveling TrophyThe easiest way to change the dynamic of your league is to add a traveling trophy. The OIL awards a traveling trophy in lieu of a cash prize, but your league could easily award both. A "traveling" trophy is one that is held in trust by the league champion. He or she keeps the trophy until a new champion is crowned. The OIL uses SculptureAlley.net for its trophies but there are a lot of options out there. The OIL's trophies have a laser-engraved title plate with the league logo and each season's champion is engraved onto the trophy base. Think of it like the Stanley Cup. Due to the popularity of the FX show The League, many leagues refer to their trophy as The Shiva.
Yahoo! Sports' video covering the 2015 OIL Draft has been named as one of five winners of the Associated Press Sports Editors' award for best long video. Congratulations to Ryan Dornbusch, Keri Barron, Jason Klabacha, Brad Williams, Victor Velazquez, April Tucker, Andy Behrens and the rest of the Yahoo! crew for their achievement. And thank you for telling our story.
PFC manager Jon Gomez decided fantasy football wasn't for him. Replacing him will be former SECFOR supply sergeant Kevin Hodge. Name and logo are to be determined.
PFC manager Randy McKay remains a Texas fan despite all logic and reason. Therefore, he has based his fantasy football team on the Longhorns' look. The logo is supposed to look like a branding iron with 'O' and 'B' along with longhorns and blood. It was designed by Michael Taylor.
Every top-tier sports league has a hall of fame, and the OIL is a top-tier fantasy football league. So why should it be any different? It's time to induct the first class into the OIL Hall of Fame. But, first, let's discuss logistics.
Where is it? Our Hall of Fame is located at Camp Gruber, Oklahoma. Why Camp Gruber? Well, that's where the SECFOR mission began. Every member of the 158 (and every member of the SECFOR mission that gave rise to the OIL) has spent time at Camp Gruber. The Pro Football Hall of Fame is located in Canton, Ohio, even though no professional football teams are based there anymore. The same is true for Camp Gruber: no one lives there now, but it's the birthplace of the OIL and a place to where many of our members still make an annual pilgrimage. What is the criteria for the OIL Hall of Fame?
Who selects the OIL Hall of Fame inductees? The Hall of Fame committee, which consists of the overall OIL Commissioner, each Assistant Commissioner that has been in the OIL for three seasons, and each OIL champion who has been in the OIL for at least three seasons. The commissioner and assistant commissioner positions get one vote automatically. Each championship is equal to one vote as well. So, here are the votes:
So, without further adieu, here is the inaugural class inducted into the OIL Hall of Fame. |
