Tony Gonzalez never did win a championship, but his dominance at the TE position for eight OIL seasons earned him a spot here.
COBB: Tony Gonzales changed the way opposing defenses viewed the tight end position. He was a wide receiver lined up as a tight end, so it often felt like an unfair advantage to defensive coordinators. A tall, lean, former basketball player that always seemed to come down with the ball. He was as sure-handed as he was talented. He holds every career receiving record for a tight end, whether its yards, catches, or touchdowns. Tony was also a model citizen. He represented the league with honor and never missed a game due to suspension.
DUFFY: Gonzo was amazing at a position we all take for granted at times. Most drafts found a happy manager in the middle rounds snatching him up and knowing it was a value pick. Unfortunately, when I drafted him, I was counting on bigger and better numbers and did not get them. Not that Tony under-performed, but as usual I was in a position where prayer and hope were my best bet to overcome bad roster moves.
