Pennington missed out on the 2006 SECFOR mission but he later deployed to Ramadi and Afghanistan with the 158. He was asked to join the OIL after three weeks of the 2015 season had passed. The manager he took over for had not logged into his team, and the team was 1-2. Pennington took over, re-christened the franchise the FDC Chiefs and promptly led the Chiefs to the Patriot Bowl, where he fell to the champion Boomtown Brawlers.
