'What's That Guy Been Up To?' An Interview with OIL Champion Stephen Brosh

Fourteen years have passed since we first sat at Snow Hall and learned that the 1st Battalion of the 158th Field Artillery regiment was being called up for service in Iraq. A lot has changed during that time, so let's take some time to catch up, this time with AFC and OIL champion Stephen M. Brosh.

Are you still in the 158?
BROSH: No, I got out right after we got back.
What did you do post-deployment?
BROSH: Before the deployment, I was going to school to become a firefighter, and I got a job with Duncan Fire Department after we got back.
Where are your from and how did you make it into the 158?
BROSH: I'm from Marlow and joined with a couple high school friends. Bravo Battery was located in Marlow and Duncan, so that's where I was assigned.
Where do you live now?
BROSH: I live in Marlow and work in Duncan.
What are your hobbies outside of FF?
BROSH: I do a lot of fly fishing and wake boarding.
BROSH: No, I got out right after we got back.
What did you do post-deployment?

How long have you played FF? How many different leagues?
BROSH: I didn't play fantasy football until joining the OIL in 2014, so I've played for five years. The OIL is the only league I play in.
How many championships have you won?
BROSH: Just one.
How many have you finished second in?
BROSH: None. 2018 was my first championship game.
How did you feel about your draft?
BROSH: I thought it wasn't the best draft I ever had, but it was enough to make a winning season possible.
What was the key to your success?
BROSH: Drafting Patrick Mahomes in the 10th round.
Did you feel like a favorite?
BROSH: Never. With Mahomes and a decent roster around him, I was always a contender for the playoffs, but I never felt like the favorite.
Who did you think was going to win your conference?
BROSH: I thought it would be Jimmy Venable (War Pony) or Nick Green (Doughboys).
What is your general strategy in FF?
BROSH: Since we play in a PPR league, I always target RBs with good hands early. That way he has two ways to score, and I'm not reliant on game flow.
What was different about this year for you?
BROSH: I finally won.
How much preparation did you do?
BROSH: I check my team several times a day and paid more attention to injuries and free agents this year.
Do you find you draft better at the cabin with the guys or at home online?
BROSH: At the cabin for sure.
Will you be at the draft cabin next year?
BROSH: Absolutely.
Who was your team MVP?
BROSH: Patrick Mahomes for sure.
What was the best move you made post-draft?
BROSH: Picking up Elijah McGuire after Isaiah Crowell went on IR.
Do you know who you're going to pick at 1.01 next year?
BROSH: Yes but I'm not at liberty to say at this time.
Where will you display the trophies?
BROSH: They will be on my mantle all year.
