Wow. Shane Maddox and Anthony Wustenfeld responded in a big way to our call for design submissions for an Oklahoma City NFL team.  As a reminder, the deadline for submissions in the contest is March 15, 2014. Shane owns T-Mac Sports, and he partnered with Anthony Wustenfield of Pro Line Designs to bring us the Oklahoma City Infantry.  Here's what he had to say about his submission:
"I had wanted to create a concept for quite some time now, and with my access to resources (being the owner of T Mac Sports), and the intrigue of an Oklahoma City football team, I figured the time was now.  I enlisted the help of Anthony Wuestenfeld with Pro Line Designs.  He ownes an Oklahoma based company, who more recently brought NFL attention to OKC via a photoshopped “OKC Seahawks” t-shirt.  Between my resources and design ability, and Anthony’s knowledge of Oklahoma, we were the perfect team.

Collectively, we bring you the 'Oklahoma City Infantry.'  When deciding on a name for our team, we knew that it would need to bring feelings of strength, as well as an insight into the history of the great state of Oklahoma.  These two factors brought us to the 45th Infantry Division of the Oklahoma Army National Guard which has been a big part of the history of Oklahoma (as well as the United States) dating back to 1920.  Their color palette, logos, and meaning fit everything we were looking to do for the team (as you can see from their website http://45thdivisionmuseum.com)."

Editor's Note: The 45th Infantry Division museum is located in Oklahoma City, too.

Wow. I am impressed. The OIL started in Baghdad as all the managers were members of the Oklahoma Army National Guard's 1st Bn 158th Field Artillery regiment. We were field artillery though, not infantry. Still, we are proud of the 45th Infantry Division. The 45th Field Artillery Brigade began as the field artillery element of the 45th Infantry. We also proudly wear the T-Bird on our shoulder. So, kudos to this team of designers for incorporating the 45th. Now, to the uniforms.

"When creating their uniforms we wanted to keep a simple yet somewhat modern feel.  Cement Gray became a 3rd primary color, being featured in the uniform pants as well as the base color of the football helmet.  The red and yellow, inspired by the 45th’s Thunderbird logo, are both used frequently both in stripes as well as accents in different areas of the uniforms.  Bringing all of these colors together is a dark navy, inspired by the 45th Division’s web site.  Red is the primary in the logo on the helmet and on the jersey with the "angular" OC being inside the shield.  That angular look we continued with the font as well."

"Overall, we feel that this design honors the state of Oklahoma as well as the men and women who have served in the 45th Infantry Division. Please enjoy our pictures.  I even created an actual completed mini helmet of the concept design (which I think may be a first), but I could be wrong.  Also included are the helmet drawings, The first 8 pages of how our jerseys would be broken down if they were to actually going to be manufactured.  Finally, the last picture is the overall concept down to the pantones, what thread to use, how the logos would look on different background, etc.

Thanks,

Shane Maddox
